THE LONGLINE BLAZER
Today was just one of those days when after getting dressed I ended up looking more formal that I meant to.
That's the thing about this longline blazer, it makes you look more put together the minute you put it on, no matter what outfit you have on underneath - or at least most of the time.
To dress this outfit down I could put on a denim jacket et voilà, suddenly not so dressy.
This outfit made me reminisce about the time -it's been so long- I had an actual 9 to 5 office job and had to look this put together from Monday morning until Friday afternoon. Which on the long term made me hate dressing up nicely in my private life, unfortunately.
But my office job wasn't the only thing that made me not to like dressing up when I was younger. My parents used to be obsessed with me and my sister dressing nicely. Every time we went shopping they would always try to force us into buying suit pants and blazers, because they hated the way we dressed - I was an Adidas Superstar kind of teenager.
Having to dress a certain way made me feel like I lost control. So, for me style among a lot of other things means to be in control of my appearance. But I also think this is how your style evolves - you are being put into certain situations throughout you life and you take away a lesson.
Looking back at it now I certainly had horrible style growing up, but it was mine, it was how I wanted to look at the time and how I felt comfortable looking. And after all that time at the age of 29 I actually feel good dressed up because it was a choice I made.
On another note it snowed on Wednesday so when I said I never wish to see my winter clothes again until November, well guess what...
